***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***
NEW JERSEY ASSEMBLYMAN REED GUSCIORA,
HUDSON COUNTY EXECUTIVE THOMAS A. DEGISE, AND
JERSEY CITY MAYOR JERRAMIAH T. HEALY
TO SPEAK AT JERSEY CITY LGBT PRIDE FESTIVAL
Jersey
City Lesbian + Gay Outreach, Inc (JCLGO) is excited to announce that
NJ Assemblyman Reed Gusciora is scheduled to speak as Keynote Speaker
at the 7th Annual Jersey City LGBT Pride Festival on Saturday, August
25, from noon to 8 pm, on the waterfront at Exchange Place.
Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (NJ-D) was the author of the New Jersey
Marriage Equality legislation that was presented last October. Gusciora,
who was first elected into office in 1995 to New Jersey’s 15th district,
has the distinction of being the only openly Gay member of the NJ
Assembly.
According to JCLGO Executive Director, Catherine Hecht, “We are thrilled
to have Assemblyman Gusciora as our keynote speaker. He exemplifies the
spirit of our theme—Live
and Let Love-- that celebrates the recent victories the LGBT community
has had with Civil Unions while continuing to push our movement forward
towards full Marriage Equality.”
Hudson County Executive Thomas A. DeGise and Jersey City Mayor
Jerramiah Healy are also confirmed for this year’s Pride Festival. Each
will address the crowd in the early afternoon.
In addition to influential speakers, JCLGO is honored to announce Rabbi
Kenneth Brickman will lead this year’s Moment of
Silence where those lost to HIV/AIDS, violence and the 9/11 attacks are
remembered. Rabbi Brickman has received various awards for his efforts
to “combat prejudge, bias, bigotry and racism.” He
also has been serving the Jersey City community for more than 17 years,
and he is the first Judaic spiritual leader to preside over the Moment
of Silence.
JCLGO’s 7th annual Jersey City Pride Festival, "Live & Let Love" will be
held Saturday, August 25th, 2007, at Exchange Place in Jersey City and
includes a Rally with speakers, entertainers, a dance, and a huge Market
Space with all kinds of food, merchandise vendors, and organizations from
12 (noon)-8pm.
JCLGO’s Annual LGBT Pride Week includes events such as a Pre-Party kick
off, the Rainbow Flag Raisings at both Jersey City-City Hall and The Hudson
County Brennan Court House, a Youth Event, an LGBT Art Show, a Woman’s
Dance, and much more.
